Construction Engineering students learn about proposed Alaska gas pipeline
from BP project manager

Students in Construction Engineering (CE 441) got a first-hand account of the details of a major North American engineering project from the project's planning manager of BP Exploration, Inc. The proposed Alaska Gas Pipeline will transport natural gas from northern Alaska to Chicago. The 3,000 mile facility is expected to cost $35 Billion and will require 10 years to construct. On February 11, 2008, Mr. John L. Horstkoetter spoke to the class, discussing the challenges of this project – ranging from scheduling, sequencing, technology, and policy issues.

CE 441 provides students with an introduction to the challenges associated with large-scale civil construction. During the course, students will hear directly from leaders in the construction industry, who will provide concrete examples of professional issues in a series of 7 guest lectures.
